The largest car insurance company in the United States, State Farm has lost the top spot in several states. Headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois, State Farm sells auto insurance in every state.
State Farm generally has a reputation for great service, but there seems to be a price for the service you get. If you have State Farm auto insurance leave a review about your experience – good or bad.

Extremely satisfied with State Farm. Rates have gone up a little past few years, and big jump past 12 months after a massive car accident involving my spouse over a year ago. But my only contact was after the wreck, and fast and efficient service. This is when you need your insurance company, usually when something goes wrong and you’re involved in an accident! All in all i’m onboard, but the current state of the economy has me on edge and I’ll be looking around again sooner ranther than later, as the recession is hurting my pocketbook and i need to save everywhere i can.
I have been with this company since I started driving 36 years ago. Agents have retired and I find a new one. They have always been quick to pay which has actually rarely happened for me, but I know I can count on a quick response if I need one. My agent has even come to my work for me so that I did not have to take time off when I needed something.
I have checked around periodically and there is no place less expensive or more personable or fair. They also offer other things, like life insurance or savings as they are also a bank. They are never pushy in trying to get you into their other things. They are just an all around stable company that I am proud to be with.
I now have my daughter with them and she is happy as well as they talk to her and answer her questions in a way that makes her not afraid to ask since she is a new driver. My dad was also with them. I would not even ever consider switching unless they went out of business. Also you can view and make changes on line which is a convenience for me.
I have held an auto insurance policy with State Farm for 9 years (since I was 16). I have nothing but good things to say about State Farm Insurance. Throughout high school and college, I received a good student discount for having good grades. In 2005, my car was damaged by hail. State Farm gave me a great quote, and I was able to pay off my car loan. In 2006, I added renters insurance, and the combined total of the two was actually LOWER than my single rate for auto insurance. When I turned 25, my rates went down to phenomenal lows. This summer, I purchased a brand new 2008 vehicle, and my insurance is still insanely low. This month, for now reason at all, my premium went down AGAIN, saving me $15 a month. I could not be happier with my insurance.
My husband and I carry State Farm Insurance. We’ve had it for the 12 years we’ve been married. Our local office has always been so generous to us. They never fail to call us if we’ve been late. They have even given us a second call to remind at the last minute. When we go in to pay, they always make us feel very comfortable. As for paying out on our claims, we couldn’t ask for a better insurance company.
We had a minor incident when we were on vacation once, and they took care of it, no problem. Someone ran a stop sign and t-boned our SUV causing major damage (and drove off!) — Again, not a problem. I’ve even gone to them with possible claims and they told me the best way to handle it as not to have to up our insurance. This is the kind of service we expect and they never have let us down.
Overall, I like State Farm. I have been with them since I was 16 years old and changed agents a few times but all is OK with them really. My current agent has really really good customer service via email.
My only real complaint is that they say they are 24/7 but they are not. When you call that 800 number during non-business hours, all they offer to do is take a message. They do not have access to your personal policy information and thus can answer no questions for you. That stinks. For the money I pay, I should be able to have access to my policy information by phone 24/7, as the ads state. Other than that, I have no real complaints. I have had a few wrecks/accidents over the years and they have never hassled me or raised my rates because of them.
State Farm Auto Insurance has provided our family with exceptional customer service over the past 10 years. Any questions or concerns we’ve had have been dealt with in a fast and professional manner. When purchasing a new car, State Farm initiates our new policy within an hour and has the necessary paperwork at the dealer shortly after we’ve made our request.
With the unfortunate event of an accident, State Farm quickly supplied us with options for repair and kindly answered questions about our policy coverage. Our State Farm office checks in with us from time to time to be sure we’re satisfied with our coverage and to assure that we’re adequately covered. While State Farm may not be the least expensive auto insurance option, they are in my opinion the best value for our money.
State farm has been a great insurance company so far. I have not been in any auto accidents, but I am confident they will satisfy my needs if I am ever in that situation. I know several people who use them for auto insurance and they go above and beyond to help their clients. They have reasonable rates and are very affordable. If you are under 25, I think State farm is the way to go. Of course, adults who are older get incredible deals. I have been with State Farm for over 2 years and have no intentions of switching to anyone else. I am a very satisfied customer. I highly recommend them to drivers of every age and background!
State Farm is the company I’ve been with for about 15 years. I have had overall good service with them, and I have found them to consistently offer the best rate available. I have had only one major accident, and I was very impressed with the speed with which they processed my claim. I always have a pleasant phone experience with them, and when I’ve had to leave messages, my calls are always returned by the end of the business day.
The number one issue , really the only issue I have, with State Farm is that their roadside assistance plan is virtually worthless. Although it’s very cheap(a few bucks a month),it barely is worth it. The problem is, that although you are technically covered, it’s extremely difficult to get reimbursed.
For example, when I had to have my car towed, I had to pay the entire 300 dollars out of pocket up front, and then file with state farm for a reimbursement which took weeks to be processed. Then, they only covered 125 dollars of that amount as that is their maximum, because I chose to have it towed to my mechanic and they said i could have had it towed for less. That alone made me seriously reconsider State Farm, but I had the idea of joining AAA, which has a REAL roadside assistance program, and now I am fine with that. As long as I have that extra AAA program, I am perfectly happy with State Farm’s insurance services.
I have had to call my insurance company with claims on two occasions. On both occasions, they made the process more difficult than necessary by making me provide duplicate information to two of their claim representatives. When I explained my frustrations, they gave a hurried, insincere explanation that state law required they act this way.
One time, I actually got a threatening-sounding letter stating that my auto insurance renewal was overdue and I was going to lose my coverage. This happened before they even sent me the regular renewal notice (with the two wallet-sized insurance cards). Fortunately, the lady at my agent’s office was able to resolve the situation quickly.
For those considering State Farm, make sure your agent’s office is efficient and competent. You can change agents while staying with State Farm if you choose. I have been frustrated with State Farm, but surprisingly I have not found better rates for my coverage with other reputable insurance providers.
Like State Farm’s slogan says,”like a good nieghbor, State Farm is there” They truly are like good friends. We could not have a better insurance agent. He is very true in helping us to make discounts apply to us. We have an accident with our boat. First accident on this boat in 12 years and it was never questioned. Agent took pictures asked for the estimates. We were payed on the spot. We have been with State Farm all our working and driving years.
State Farm is overall very good to deal with. I had someone hit me receantly and they gave me a low estimate for repairs. Keep in mind I drive a 1966 Mustang so parts are harder to price. I sent them back how much they should cost and they are currently going over it to grant me what I want. I also managed to have them reopen this claim after 9 months of procrastination on my part. They are fair, and easy to deal with most of the time. It always depends on who you talk to, but they are very compliant and helpful through the process.
I’ve had nothing but a good experience with state farm insurance company. When I first got my license, It was the first place I got a quote and It was by far the lowest. They offered me numerous savings such as an accident free discount, good student discount, and a multi-car discount. I’ve only had to use them to fix my car once, when a rock hit my windshield. I drove to the insurance company, showed them the damage, and within about 3 hours I had a brand new windshield installed. I didn’t have to pay a dime. They also send me refund checks every year when I turn another year older. Nothing but good experiences I’ve had with them.
I have been with State Farm for over 20 years. I have accumlated many discounts and carry other lines with the company as well. The price i have for auto insurance is very good. In addition, i have an agent who is always available for anything I need. In the few times I have had a claim, their claims service is fast and is very easy to work with. I can not imagine going with another insurance company. You are not only paying for the insurance, but the claims service and customer service as well. State Farm is top notch.
I have had State Farm insurance for all of my cars for the last 25 years. While I think the cost of the insurance is higher then most I have been very pleased with the service I have received. During the course of the 25 years I have insured myself ,my wife and 2 children as well. During this time both of my kids during their teenage years had fairly significant accidents. In one case totalling new BMW. While their rates did go up I was happy with the coverage and how the claims were handled. State Farm did fight legally the insurance company of the other driver and I thought they did well. So overall I feel the extra cost was worth it as the insurance and the customer service was strong.
I have nothing but good things to say about State Farm auto insurance. I have been with the same agent for almost 25 years. They have always been extremely prompt to answer any questions I’ve had, and to respond to any claim that I’ve been forced to make. I think there are less expensive insurers out there–though State Farm’s prices are competitive–but I’ve never been tempted to switch because I know some of the cheaper places don’t have as good customer service, whereas, again, I’ve always had top-notch response from State Farm.
The few times that I’ve had a fender bender or whatever, the agent has responded to the issue within half a day or less. Whenever I send my agent an email message, he always responds within an hour or two. His staff is very courteous when I call. I recommend State Farm without reservation.
When I turned 16 and needed car insurance, I went with the same insurer my father had, a man he went to high school with. He took excellent care of our family through State Farm for years, until my father’s death. For some reason, after that his interest and care in our family faded. We changed to another local State Farm agent and continued to have excellent service. When I moved to Texas and then North Carolina, I got referrals from my home agent, and I have also been happy with the service and performance of those agents. State Farm may cost a little more, but the benefits are well worth it.
State farm is the best insurance company there is. I was with Farmers insurance for 15 years and decided to do a little shopping around. I filled out a quote request on the internet and State Farm came back with a quote for my daughter and my self $700 less per year than I was paying. Farmers didn’t even try to match the quote and so I switched over. I have been very happy with the service I’ve received. My daughter lost her insurance card and they sent out a new one the same day I called. I was able to get my new policy all signed and completed thru email with my assigned agent. They always return my calls very quickly and are just really nice and helpful.
I absolutely love State Farm Insurance Company. They have the best deals on full coverage insurance. I just called today to add my fiance on to my insurance. We were paying $280 a month through another provider. I got her car insured, full coverage, for $95 a month. Aside from the great deals, their customer service is wonderful. They are very friendly. I signed up through an independent insurance agent. He was the owner of the local branch. When I called him he was at home on his cell phone. Still got me the quote and got me setup so I could ride my motorcycle off the lot that day. Talk about service! I absolutely love State Farm.
I wrecked my brand new silver Toyota Yaris yesterday in a four car chain collision. There were over 14,000 dollars in damages between all of the vehicles, and mine was among the worst involved. I immediately called up State Farm Insurance and explained what had happened to them. They ran me through a series of steps that needed to be taken next in order to get my car back in working order. Also, because my plan was decent, I only had to pay a 500 dollar deductible for over 3,500 dollars of damage. They covered the cost of a rental car as well.
I also had to be taken to the hospital along with my girlfriend Mia, because both of us had some minor injuries. State Farm Insurance covered the hospital costs too. Today alone I have been called by my State Farm representative 3 times just to confirm that everything is okay and running smoothly. I do not regret for a moment having signed up with State Farm Insurance! Those guys are spectacular as well as some of the nicest individuals around.
I just move to STATE FARM, their service it’s great, my agent even came to my work, so I could sign all the forms, they also send me b-day cards, holidas labels, calendars, even a baby book when I had my baby.
Before State Farm I was with Farmer which had a really bad service, they increase my premium without any reason.
State Farm give me a loyalty discount every year, and they even called me to asked me how was m Holidays.
I would never change my insurance again,
Best service ever, and the claim dpt is the best.
I even have my agent cell phone number, so I can call them when I need them.
State Farm, although they have received a bad reputation in disaster insurance, is by far the best auto insurance company one could hope for. If ever I have a problem they cut through all the red tape and respond quickly. When my windshield was vandalized I simply made one phone call to my agent and it was repaired that day for no charge!
Occasionally I have fallen behind in my payments, even though they provide very reasonable rates, and they are more than willing to work with me. They genuinely care about retaining you as a customer. Perhaps you are wondering is it just my agent that is so attentive? Yes and no. My agent is extremely attentive but I have received stellar service from all the State Farm agents I have done business with. My entire family is in fact under State Farm coverage and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!
The rates are decent and they offer multiple discounts like family, multiple accounts, as well as a “good student discount.” There was a time, though, that I was in a fender bender that wasn’t my fault and it took WAAAY too long to actually get a hold of someone at State Farm and I felt like I had to do more then I should have to get them to call me back.
Also my policy provided me with a rental car so State Farm contacted a company they go with, Enterprise, and got a car ready for me. Everything was supposed to be taken care of and after I returned the car I got a bill for the so called “insurance” for the rental car. This was all setup by State Farm so basically I paid 100 bucks to get hit by some guy that can’t drive in snow. I wasn’t real happy that they didn’t reimburse me because they are the ones who set it up. When I’m off my parents insurance I probably won’t stay with this company.
My insurance company is State Farm. I have been with them for over 30 years, and I am very pleased with them. They may be slightly higher than other companies, but they are very dependable. Their customer service is wonderful. They work with me to help me reduce my insurance costs. They are available 24 hours a day, which is great if I have an emergency. They have been very responsive to the few claims I have had. They paid my claims very quickly. I would highly recommend State Farm Insurance to anyone.
I am not a State Farm customer and never will be. I was recently in a fender-bender with a State Farm customer. I was making a right turn at an intersection where there are two traffic lanes with a bus stop to the right of them. I was in the right-hand of the two traffic lanes; when I turned I was hit from the right by someone who could only have been coming from the bus stop, but, well, was not driving a bus.
The first time my claim was refused, I was cited a statute saying I should have been as close to the curb as possible when turning. I looked up the statute, saw that local traffic regulations (such as marked bus stops) override it, and sent back a letter with that information, Google photos of the intersection, etc.
I got a new letter with a new story, now claiming that their driver was in the right lane and I was in the left. Which is simply impossible (we would have been blocking the intersection until we were towed 45 minutes later); and when I called in, I was told that an investigator had visited the intersection and there’s no bus stop there. Either he went to the wrong intersection or he’s lying. I work on that block and know it well. There is a clearly marked (by signage and on the pavement) bus zone which no car should be in.
Also, there’s a person claiming to be a witness but who showed up 20 minutes after the accident. I told the cop that, but he chose to ignore that and cited the witness (and no one else) on the police report. I pointed that out to State Farm and they said they’d try to reach the witness. When I called in after the second denial, they said they’d been unable to reach the witness but somehow – in what is apparently their idea of logic – that means they’re justified in relying on him (“not being able to reach the witness means they have no reason to overturn their initial decision,” or words to that effect.)
So we’re out $3,700 for repairs (until we take the issue to court). State Farm is clearly not interested in honestly resolving claims, just in paying out as little as possible. Maybe this is good from the point of view of the insured, but it’s just not right.
State Farm has been the best insurance company that I have ever dealt with and by profession I am an Insurance Agent. When I was involved in a very serious auto accident they were extremely efficient at handling my claim. I received promt service when I called the claim in. My adjuster was assigned to me immediately. They were very knowledgeable about every question that I would impose upon them. My check was issued in a timely manner. I was called throughout the entire process. Once my check was received I continued to be contacted to make sure that there was nothing else additional that I needed. They paid the medical bills and covered the other vehicle that I hit. All in all State Farm was the best insurance company that I have delat with in my 25 years in the insurance industry.
State Farm as an insurance company may be just fine. For the last 25 years we have not had to file any insurance claims, but 25 years ago they did what you would expect from an auto insurance company. So my issue is not with State Farm Insurance, but rather with my agent and the individuals that run the office. We have several cars insured with them and they are constantly mis-applying our payments, allowing one policy to lapse while another one that has already been paid for gets the payment applied and eventually we get a refund check. Phone calls are a lesson in patience as no one in the office will ever take responsibility for an error and all errors are always the customers, in this case our, fault. My experiences have been so bad that I will switch insurance companies as soon as the money becomes available.
My husband and I had State Farm Insurance for probably 24 years and we were very satisfied with the service we received. However when my daughter turned 16 I requested a price quote to add her and it was astronomical. I then started to check around. I got in touch with Country Companies and they gave me a far better quote. I called my State Farm agent back and gave hime the opportunity to match this quote and he told me he could not possibly match it. I was amazed since we had been with them for so many years that he was so willing to let us go. Since then we have been with Country Companies, about 14 years who I would like to add is the only insurance company out there that has the lowest complaints filed ( if any ) than any other insurance company.
I was with State Farm for several years and assumed that going anywhere else for my basic single-car policy wouldn’t result in a significant savings. My rate jumped a bit when I bought another car (the same econobox kind of car, but 10 years newer and with the more sophisticated computer controls of its generation), then jumped again for no apparent reason. Neither time did I get any notice or explanation, which I took as disregard for customers’ budgeting needs. I called my State Farm representative and was told that the second jump was a standard rate adjustment. That’s not an unreasonable insurance practice (a notice or explanation is still in order), but the main issue was that my rate had gone up by about 35% within two years. It was time to shop around.
I called one of the companies that advertises low rates and ended up with higher coverage amounts at a rate 46% less than I was paying at State Farm. I don’t yet know what the customer service experience will be should I ever need to call on the new company, but I’m not about to turn down a 46% savings over fear of a bad experience that I could as easily have with any company.
