Erie Customer Reviews
Erie Insurance Group (ERIE) began in Pennsylvania in 1925. They have since expanded operations into 10 other states in the Northeast and Midwest. Erie markets their auto, home, and life insurance products through independent agencies. They are still one of the largest auto insurance companies in Pennsylvania.
Although not as large as the big guys, Erie Insurance is a respectable regional insurer in their area. If you have had Erie Insurance, leave a review about your experience, good or bad.

My insurance company has good coverage for the money and convenient payment plans. Their local agent is pretty good with handling my insurance needs. The only bad things really about my plan is the fact that I have to pay a service charge to make my payments low enough and my payments are spread over too many months. My whole plan with collision coverage is about $350 for a full year.
This is actually not bad as my old insurance company, Hanover charged nearly twice that for a full year. I am glad it is this low, but I will likely be even happier when the price goes down after I drop the collision, as I only have it due to the car is still being paid for. A downside to the billing cycle though, is no grace period. If I don’t pay on time, there will be an added service charge added on to the bill. It would be frustrating if I simply forgot to pay one month because I misplaced the bill. The lack of a grace period is due to their policy of liberal payment plans. Overall, I’m just glad I don’t have to pay more for my insurance.
I have had Erie Insurance for both my home and auto for over 30 years. At this point I have accident forgiveness in the event of an accident. Unfortunately I had to use them this year for the first time in a long time. The claim was handled quickly and efficiently. I dealt with not only a claims adjuster but a medical claims person as well. Both were professional and extremely helpful. I would recommend them as an insurance company.
The only negative thing I could say was they used after market parts on my vehicle when I had my accident. I would have preferred that they use manufacturer parts. However, the damage was extensive and they gave me great service. I have had very little occassion in the past to use my auto insurance so this professional attitude and quick response proved to be a positive reflection on the company. I would recommend them for anyone who needs auto insurance. I have checked the rates with other companies in the past and none have been able to meet/beat what Erie offered me.
Eleven years ago we moved to another state and needed to get our vehicles’ paperwork changed and insured in North Carolina. I asked around and by word of mouth, a local agent was recommended. My kids and I went to his office and his wife welcomed us and spent quite some time with me. She personalized an insurance policy with Erie with me. I was very lucky because I have found that Erie has the best prices – if you keep a clean driving record – than any other company that I’ve heard about. Even adding a teen to our policy didn’t hurt too much, the premium went up about 50%, whereas my coworkers’ auto insurance tripled when they added their teens to their policies.
Even after 11 years, Erie’ premiums haven’t increased too much. Fortunately, I haven’t had to file a claim with Erie. However, I have contacted them multiple times (trading cars, adding teens, changing features of the policy, etc.) to ask questions and make changes to my policy. Everything I wanted was handled immediately and pleasantly by the local agent. Erie does not call me to solicit further business or send me any junk mail. I’m sure Erie respects my privacy and has not shared my name or information with any other company.
I have been with Erie for three years now, and I have been impressed with their service, prices, and communication. Erie assigns a person to your account, and this person becomes your point of contact. It is nice having a name and direct line to call if there are issues. I have not had to use the car insurance, thankfully, but I know that if I do I will have great service from Erie.
Erie Insurance is delaying paying me on insurance claims I made. I had to get a lawyer to even get them to talk to me. Now they they are playing games. I have to go a deposition meeting with them and discuss my claims again when they have all the paper work and bills me and my lawyer turned in to them. As soon as this thing is settled I am going with another insurance carrier. Don’t buy Erie Insurance. They will try to rip you off every way they can.
My wife was rear ended by a person who had Erie Insurance. My wife’s car was a total loss through no fault of her own. Erie Insurance uses comps which are no where near close to the actual value of a car. I would NEVER recommend Erie for car insurance. Their adjusters are trained to pay out as little as possible on claims. Theur adjusters also try to use many intimidation techniques to force people into accepting offers that are less than fair. They talk constantly and seldom let you voice your opinion. These people and the company they work for, in this case Erie Insurance, appear to be extremely unfair.
