MetLife Insurance Reviews

Metlife logoMetLife started as Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in 1863. Originally a disability, accident, and sickness insurance company, they eventually focused on life insurance.

Headquartered in New York City, MetLife is a diversified insurance company. They have expanded their original offering to disability, annuities, business, banking products, dental insurance, home insurance, and of course auto insurance.

MetLife has offered auto insurance throughout it’s long history – but not continuously. They seem to want to be a player in the auto insurance arena for now. If you have any experience with the company, please add to these MetLife Customer Reviews – good, bad, or ho-hum.

I had always been pleased with my service and always got questioned answered. But when a non-insured driver turned in front of me, causing my car to be totaled, I naturally had to rely on my insurance. I had to end up getting a lawyer. I was the client and they were fighting me to pay the claim. It took a year, but finally, they paid, They are not on your side!

MetLife has been a great auto insurance company for me. I’ve been with them since I first got my license as a teenager, and moved on to my own policy once I was out on my own. Since I’ve been with them for several years, the price I pay for my insurance is great. It fits perfectly into my budget.

The customer service is also great. I’ve worked with the accounting department, customer service, and the policy department. The only problems I’ve had with their customer service have been that they are not open 7 days a week, and that there were several errors on my policy when I pulled off of my parents. Some of my address info, employer info, etc were incorrect, however, I believe that this was because I had pulled off of my parents’ policy, and some of their info transferred over with mine.

Any time I have had to file a claim, they have been very helpful in helping me understand what I need to do, any paperwork I need to fill out, and have always been able to help me work through it from beginning to end. Overall Metlife has been a great auto insurance company for me.

I was rear-ended by A Metlife policy holder on June 21, 2013 and after a period of difficulty in reaching them and having tensely heated conversations with them when we did make contact, they finally accepted responsibility for my vehiicle damages on Friday, July 26th, 2013. Even since then, it has still been very difficult to contact their adjuster to get the claim settled out. I would never use Metlife Auto Insurance, because their personnel deliver unprofessional, and rude service.

My wife had an accident 8 months ago. Actually it “happened” to her. It was not her fault! A teenage girl was texting, not paying attention, and slammed into my wife who was stopped at a stoplight. My wife went to the hospital with neck and back issues.

The teenager was ruled clearly at fault. MetLife told my wife, who called them the next day, what happened. They told her that she could use MetLife as a Go-between or deal strictly with the other insurer (21st Century). She was told that MetLife would be happy to make sure everything went well but if she decided to deal with 21st herself that MetLife would be totally out of the loop and she could not then consult them for anything. We decided to use MetLife’s help. We were told in no uncertain terms that our rates would NOT go up as it was not her fault.

We just got a 28% rate increase! When we called two days ago when we got the increase, MetLife stated that it was a “state-wide” increase! Then we got a letter in tonight that prompted me to call them again. I was told again that it was a state-wide increase. I told THEM that I received a letter that stated (seriously!) that “The Actual Reason” for the rate increase was the accident that was not her fault!

I have just spent 2 hours on the phone with MetLife being passed around to people that either don’t have access, spent their time stuttering and back-peddling and even 1 person who said that we shouldn’t have been told all the stuff were told at the start of all of this.

In the end… There was “no one there” to help on a Friday night at 8pm and I would have to wait until Monday.

Guess who is shopping for new insurance!?

BEAWARE and STAY FAR AWAY FROM METLIFE they treat their customers like Crap!…We have been with MetLife over 10 years we have both Auto and Home policy’s. Something has changed with them over the past couple of years. They have been slowly increasing the rates. We have clean driving records and no claim history. They recently “dropped” us because we didn’t provide information on an adult child who did not live in the house or in the same state for that matter. They forced her onto our policy without our permission when I requested a simple quote to store her vehicle on the property until she moved back to the state. I called them to find out what was up they jumped the premium up $100 a month. I let them know that I did not give permission to add another person I simply asked for a quote to house a garaged vehicle. They told be oops once a person’s been added they cant just remove a person without a long drawn out process and it has to go through underwriting to remove person. So let me get this straight your rep added a person without permission and I can’t remove them due to your error? They sent me a letter saying they were sorry I was unhappy with them. Then they turned around and sent us another letter to let us know they were dropping are Auto coverage. So apparently that’s how they handle unhappy customers. Well if they think we’re keeping our house policy with them they are smoking crack!

We have been with them for a few years, auto as well as home. They just increased our auto premium by $154 for a six month period for NO REASON, in the middle of our policy period.

I have been with MetLife about 1yr. I have had excellent customer service. The agent has really helped me understand the value of my policy. My premium is so much less per year then what I was paying and the coverage is much better!

Metlife is an excellent choice when it comes to auto insurance and I highly recommend it. I have been insured by MetLife for many years and my experience with them has been great. It is rare in today’s market for someone to have no complaints about their insurer but I honestly love MetLife and the way they do business.

Their monthly premiums are comparable to most insurance companies and I find their rates fair. I have never been surprised by a hidden fee or charge, their monthly premiums virtually do not rise at all, and compared to other insurers MetLife’s prices are comparable if not better. A wide variety of plans, options, and different choices on their plans give the customer a lot to choose from. One could spend hours adding and deleting certain features to suit their tastes and needs.

MetLife’s customer service is also phenomenal every time I’ve had to interact with them. Whether you’re moving, upgrading your policy, or adding a new car, your cards and updated info are promptly mailed out to you and changes reflected right away. Their staff is always friendly and willing to help, even with the tough questions or ones that are hard to answer. I luckily have never had to file a claim with MetLife, but many of my friends and family have and I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews.

When it comes to insurance it is always a good idea to go with an established company that has been around for a very long time, and MetLife’s professionalism and policies reflect this.

I was with Met Life for years because they would deduct the payment from my wife’s pay check. Not only did we pay more than any body else on our block for the same coverage but when we filed a claim for my daughters accident. No other cars were involved and she didn’t receive a ticket but the damage came to 3,900.00.On the next renewal (2mos later) my policy was increased over the next 3 years. When i figured the differance from what I was previously paying the increase came out to be 3,800.00. So they really didn’t have to pay anything. What good is insurance if your going to have to pay for the damage anyway????? Needless to say we are no longer with them.

I cannot get their claims office to answer phone calls. I left a msg which said I would get a response in two hours but it has been over two days. I have made numerous calls and I even have a claim # from my local agent. I will be changing insurance companies once this claim is settled.

I have had MetLife auto insurance for 4 years now. The agent was very friendly and helpful when I signed up. The rate is also excellent, since MetLife has an agreement with the company I currently work for. I also like the convenience of having my insurance payments deducted directly from my paycheck, so I never have to worry about missing a payment and not having coverage.

I did have an accident in March of this year and I was very impressed that MetLife fought for me and took my side. The accident was my fault, but it was a very minor fender bender where my car was barely damaged and the other car had no signs of damage whatsoever.

The other driver, however, claimed to have injuries resulting from the accident. MetLife took my side of the story, coupled with the minimal damage to her vehicle and made an appropriate pay out on the accident, rather than the exorbitant amount she was asking for. I appreciate that they stood up for me rather than paying out, then raising my rate.

I have yet to determine if my rate will go up, since I don’t renew my policy until August 2010. At that time, my opinion may change based on the amount my rate increases, but until then, I am very happy with MetLife.
