I have been insured with AIG for over 4 years and I am overall happy with them. Even though I’m a younger male and prone to a higher rate, I found the overall cost acceptable because they allow you to choose certain types of coverage for certain amounts. I really like how they allow you to make payments on your premium in advance, and I’ve never had a problem with their customer service.

I occasionally receive correspondence in the mail from them when they update or make changes to their policies which I find very informative. When I first signed up, they sent my insurance card and a couple pamphlets with helpful information on what to do when an accident happens, which, because this is my first vehicle and first time getting car insurance, I found very helpful as well. I feel as though I know exactly what to do in whatever situation I end up in.

As far as claims go, I find their customer service very helpful as I previously said. I have to say that about a year or so ago, I backed into a parked car which left visible but minimal damage. The person the car belonged to was very thankful I had insurance (as was I!). AIG contacted me by phone the very next day and the whole ordeal was sorted out promptly with a very minute increase in my monthly rate. If I had to consider switching to a different insurance company, I probably would not. I am content with AIG and I have no real reason to switch to another company that as far as I can tell, has treated me in a way that I find acceptable.

I often find that when I compare with friends close to my age, despite having a minor accident, my rate is considerably lower in most, but not all, cases.

Two months back, I met a car accident in Southborough, MA. I was told that the appraiser would come out right away. But was then told that because the appraiser didn’t want to travel outside Boston, um lazy, so the appraisal wouldn’t happen for over a week. But I couldn’t really do anything about the appraiser’s choice. This was the person/ company that AIG chose to use.

Then the auto shop where the car was taken was instructed by AIG that they could not do work over a certain amount without a second appraisal. Fine, makes sense. A 2nd appraisal was deemed necessary, but the appraiser only submitted the 2nd appraisal to AIG almost a month later. By the time this final appraisal came through, our coverage of our rental car had expired but AIG has refused to extend coverage. The decision to not extend the rental coverage of the car based on the slow action of the repair of the car is a financial decision, not based on the actions of myself or the auto shop fixing the car, but one based purely on AIG’s desire to “save” a few bucks because they hired a poor appraiser/appraisal service.

It’s unethical for AIG to not extend the rental car coverage to 30 days from when the second appraisal was submitted. I’m paying for a rental car (and we paid extra on our car insurance with AIG for rental coverage!) plus paying for car insurance all because AIG used an appraiser which failed to move faster than frozen molasses. I am looking forward to sort out the details and make the business fair. I hope I don’t need to call them again, but if I do, I HOPE I will be well taken care of

New Jersey has one of the highest auto insurance premium in the country. Most people shop around for auto insurance because it can save a few hundred bucks for basic liability up to thousands of dollars for full coverage if you get a good rate.

A few years ago my father went with AIG and the rate was only 60% of the next cheapest competitor. The process was a little more complicated since we have to do everything through mail. (no insurer is allow to process application on the phone or online. It is the state law). This is the process he went through.

He filled out an application after he called AIG to request one; after they received it, they will send a quote within 5 days (according to the application) and he has to sign the quote if he agrees to it and return to them; finally AIG will send the policy to him. The whole process will take about 3 weeks. He had three incident free year and really happy about AIG.

My old insurance policy was going to expire at the end of February, naturally he suggests using AIG. I have already decided to go with them anyway. Before I went away for vacation at the end of last year, I send out an application form, which I received from the mail. This is the last time situation normal. After I came back from vacation, I found out that AIG has send back my application along with a letter request for 2 more pieces of information, a copy of driver license and a proof of address.

I checked the application form that I filled out prior I left for vacation; there was no mention of these 2 pieces of information. There were 3 check boxes at the end of the application, which reminds me all the important information that I need to include; those 2 were NOT on the list! I was a little upset because I just wasted almost 4 weeks but not worried since I still have 5 weeks left.

So I send them out immediately the next day. Since it said that it would take 5 days to process the request, I waited a week and half before I called them. The customer service was very good. I only have to wait about 5 minutes. However no good news. The rep told me that “because of the heavy volume, all request will take 2-3 weeks to process” and “there is no information in their database for my request since it has no been entered”.

Deja vu, I just recalled then that I had a similar conversation with a rep from AIG a few years ago when I first help my father apply for his policy. I was quite upset by then. My 9 weeks cushion suddenly became 3 weeks with no certainty in sight. Furthermore, AIG flat out LIED in their application form. What happen to “allow 3-5 days to processing”? If they can’t process that many requests, hire more people, or state in their form. But DO NOT miss lead consumers!

I asked for another application form just in case they lost mine in the mail. Another week gone by with no quote or new application form. I called again, same answer again. I asked for another application. Again, a week gone by with nothing from AIG.

Now I have my new policy with Allstate from a local agent. Even if I received a quote from AIG, I am not going to accept it. The way I take it, if it take them that long and difficult to send me an application form, what happen if I report a claim? I guess that USPS will keep lose my mail to AIG and they never have to pay a penny. Not thanks AIG, I rather pay more money.

I am highly unsatisfied with the service from AIG INSURANCE COMPANY and make sure that all my acquaintance should not take any policy from AIG .The claim to repair my car 6 months of time for approval. This was really an unpleasant and frustrating experience. It was pending due to some approval issue.I spend a good time traveling and hence it is great trouble with out my car. .I have been following my surveyor for 3 months and as per him he is facing some internal approval.By i had lots of hardships to claim my policy.

I would not recommend AIG but ESURANCE for your automobile insurance

My insurance with AIG is safe and have feeling of most security. Its policies are very clear and have good clarity not like other insurance companies which I have already compared. Those were confusing and have some long procedures which are not possible to understand a layman. This is highly economic and its very useful to reduce the tax burdens. I am completely happy with AIG and planning to join other polices which are offering by AIG

I have had AIG for my car insurance for several years now. I have a solid policy that is reasonably priced. I have yet to have an accident (knock on wood) so I can not say how they handle claims, but I can comment on the product they offer, thier customer service, and ease of use. I have a bsic liability policy with them that was the least costliness of all the insurance companies I was able to research.

So, my only real complaint would be thier bill. If I would recieve a bill slightly higher that before, the bill would not state why. I would then have to call them to get my billing details. If they would itemize thier charges it would save me a little time. Over all, that little annoyance does not take away from a positive rating for my experience with this comany. I get a solid policy resonably priced, and good cutomer service over the phone. I would highly recomend this insurance company to others looking to buy auto insurance.
