The Maryland Auto Insurance Fund (MAIF) is for drivers that are not able to find a car insurance company in the regular market that is willing to give them coverage. The Maryland Auto Insurance Fund provides car insurance for those that have too many tickets, too many accidents or driving behaviors that make them too much of a risk for other companies.
It was founded by the state of Maryland in 1973 and is funded by the premiums received from policyholders and from their investment portfolio. The Maryland Auto Insurance Fund does not sell insurance directly, but is available through over 1,400 agents around the state.

MAIF has really saved me. I was having a hard time getting insurance due to some accidents and tickets on my record. The down payments were ridiculous – over $1,000 no matter who I got a quote from. I finally found MAIF after searching around on Google, and I can’t say enough good things about them. They worked with me to keep my down payment as low as possible, and are even flexible on payments. If I’m a little late, I won’t automatically get cancelled. They give more extra time to pay than anybody I know. With their help I avoided an insurance lapse and hundreds of dollars in fines. The gentleman I dealt with on the phone provided excellent service. I kept him on the phone for well over an hour and he never lost patience with me. He answered every single question I had in a polite way, and genuinely seemed like he wanted to help me get the best price possible. I really couldn’t have asked for a better experience when calling them. I was so anxious because my previous insurance was on the brink of being cancelled, and I was losing hope of finding anything affordable. While they’re only a temporary solution, as they should be, MAIF really is a lifesaver when no other insurance company will touch you for a reasonable price. Everyone I’ve dealt with there since purchasing a policy has been great. Whenever I need anything – whether it be documents or if I just have questions, they’re always very prompt in handling my requests or returning calls if they can’t help me right away. I’m really happy I found them.|
