Guide One Customer Reviews

Guide One Insurance is a small auto insurance carrier based in Iowa. Started in 1947 as Preferred Risk Mutual Insurance Company, they began insuring drivers who did not drink. The idea was that drivers who did not drink would have fewer accidents. They continued to maintain a commitment to insure socially responsible individuals.

Guide One focuses on insuring “churches, churchgoers, and faith-based institutions”. If you have an experience with Guide One Insurance, leave a review – good or bad.

Guide One has been an excellent auto insurer for me. I have been insured by Guide One for almost three years and have always received excellent service. In my three years of auto insurance with Guide One I have not had to file a claim with them but I know if I had to I would receive first class service. They are very accessible and easy to communicate with. For example, when I needed to update my driver license information they contacted me by e-mail several weeks prior to make sure I had the correct information up-to-date. When giving the driver license information I was able to do it via e-mail with the insurance agent assigned to me. The information was updated that fast and I was good-to-go. The price of the insurance with Guide One is also a huge incentive to stay with my insurer. I currently pay only $41 a month for my auto insurance policy. It is an auto policy that works for me both in coverage and in affordability. Also, they provide discounts that some other auto insurers do not offer. One such discount is a non-drinkers discount in which a percentage is taken off of my premium for being a non-drinker. They also provide special coverage for incidents that happen when one is driving to or from church service. I love that I can get extra discounts and save money with Guide One! Overall I thoroughly enjoy being with Guide One and I look forward to many more years of insurance with them.

one of guideone’s insured hit a vehicle behind me which in turn ran into me. Myself and the other victim were at a traffic light along with about 50 other cars. We had been stopped for a good two minutes. It was a clear sunny day and yet the person insured by guideone wasn’t paying enough attention to stop before hitting two vehicles.
Guideone then lowballed the value of my car to the point that the amount (had I settled for it) would not be enough to fix my car or get a suitable replacement. In short guideone wanted to leave me with no car and not enough money to get another one, even though I was 100% innocent and I had 2000.00 worth of receipts to prove that I had put that many upgrades into my car, along with the base worth of my car.
Their two offers (both of which were no enough to get another vehicle) were contingent on the fact that no matter which option I chose, they would total my vehicle. That means if I took a dime from them I would have to go through months of paperwork to get my car certified safe to drive and from that day on it would always always have a salvage title.

I sued them in small claims court and I WON! I now have enough money to put my car back the way it was and my title is clear. DO NOT settle for their crumbs! These people are NOT Christians and the fact that they try to present themselves as such infuriates me. They are awful people who try to strongarm you into feeling as though there is nothing you can do. There IS something you can do! If enough of us stop rolling over, insurance companies will get the message that it’s not worth it to try to cheat people.

This is by far the worst insurance company I ever dealt with. I bought a fixer upper in 2006 and submitted a hail damage claim March of 2012. This company paid out $800 and then looked for every reason under the sun not to insure me. BUYER BEWARE!!!! This company is terrible. Don’t do business with them. YOU WILL BE SORRY.

I have been with guide one for years and in the last couple of years I have had to file both homeowners and auto claims. They are as nice as can be until it comes time to pay out on your claims. GO told me which roofing company I had to use and as a result I ended up with interior damage and in court. My agent was no where to be found. The company told the claims adjuster to try and disallow my claim for the interior damage, but he was an honest man and allowed it…he no longer works there. Then on my auto claim…the adjuster was playing the best friend roll until it came time to pay me for my injuries when I was hit by a uninsured motorist. They are NOT a christian based insurance they prey on christians because they think we are passive. The insurance is cheap because they don’t provide a loyal service.

Although, other insurance companies continue to try to entice us to join up with them, we will probably stay with the good service we have experienced with Guide One insurance. We lived overseas for a period time and this is the insurance that picked us up with no hassle when we arrived back to the United States. We have had claims that were both our own fault and others. Each claim was settled with minimal hassle and repayment was prompt.

We previously insured with another company years ago that dropped us from their policy after one accident. I feel Guide One’s ethics are good and they take give their customers results that are owed to them. I also like the fact that they promote Christian events and will waive the deductible if an accident occurred on the way to or from a church event.

Although other companies may try to compete with a little lower pricing, I’ll pay the little more it is worth for the peace of mind I gain from knowing my insurance company is working for, and not against me.
