I ALWAYS FELT THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO HAVE A LOCAL AGENT. I AM 58 YEARS OLD AND I GUESS I AM FROM THE OLD SCHOOL ON HOW YOU PICK INSURANCE. I JOINED COSTCO AND WAS SAVING SO MUCH MONEY ON OTHER THINGS THAT I DECIDED TO GET A QUOTE ON MY CAR INSURANCE. I WAS AMAZED ON HOW MUCH MONEY I SAVED SWITCHING FROM A LOCAL COMPANY WITH A LOCAL AGENT. I TALKED WITH A FEW FRIENDS ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH AMERIPRISE AND GOT NOTHING BUT RAVE REVIEWS. AFTER BEING INSURED WITH THEM FOR OVER THREE YEARS I AGREE. THE PRICE IS STILL THE BEST AND THE BILLING PROCESS IS EASY AND AUTOMATIC SPREAD OVER A 6 MONTH PERIOD. I GET MY RENEWAL CARDS IN THE MAIL ON TIME. I HAD ONE MINOR CLAIM AND IT WAS HANDLED WITH NO PROBLEMS OR DELAYS. I WOULD RECOMMEND AMERIPRISE TO ANYONE.

I had my car insurance with one of the big companies for years and had what I thought was a good relationship with my agent. I got a mailing from Costco telling me how much people who switch to Ameriprse were able to save over other insurers. I called for a quote and was amazed how much I save. I checked them out on the internet and their reviews were good. I switched about two years ago and have nothing but good things to say about the company. I have had one claim and was worried that it would take a long time to get the claim settled. That was not the case. They had an estimation in hand within a couple of days and the repair process went smoothly. I paid a small deductible and the car looks great. I would recommend them to anyone. The monthly savings add up. Over two years I have saved a lot on premiums

so far so good. battery died and called to get a jump start. I was told it was going to take at least 45min but I only waited bout 20 min the guy was very helpful. He told me what was wrong with the battery, had a bad cell that’s why battery died. I went to my reg. autoshop to make sure if that was it and it was. but overall ameriprise has great customer service and was very helpful from beginning to end.

roadside assistance has not been good. at least i have not been stranded at the side of road the 2 times i’ve needed them. 1st time, stuck in mud – 3 hours before tow truck showed up and then the driver demanded extra money and was very hostile. 2nd time, locked out of car – waited an hour and was told the service provider never could contact their driver and it would be another 45 minutes before the next provider could arrive. who knows if they would have showed up? i called a locksmith on my own. very disappointing.

I was involved in an accident, a month after switching to this insurance company. I never said I was not at fault, but I said the other person was at fault as well, we both made a change in an intersection (me trying to get out of the intersection before the next light changed) and the lady that hit me just didn’t want to wait at the light. The original agent I spoke with said for sure, it’s not all on me, she saw the intersection, saw all the details, took a recorded statement. Said I will get a letter/phone call within a week following up. 2 weeks go by, I leave a message on her voicemail. Another week goes by, yeah she’s not with the company anymore and noone decided to return any of her calls or pick up her clients. The new guy I spoke with said no matter what, I am 100% at fault. Again, not saying I am not at fault, but when 2 people do something wrong which causes a slight accident (my car had no damage, she had markings from my bumper so nothing major) and he basically said “If a car is parked illegally, it doesn’t give you the right to ram into it”. First of all, check your attitude, and secondly, that’s not even what happened in the situation so comparing the 2, not right. I told him what the original adjuster said and he said “well, she’s not here anymore so it doesn’t matter, I’m telling you this. We’ll send you a letter” then hung up. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. So needless to say, I’ve never had an accident or a ticket and now something like this raised our rates $30/month. I tried to have this re-evaluated by a new adjuster, but I worked in Work Comp so I know how the adjuster to complaints to re-evaluations go so I was basically wasting my breath. I wish whoever I was working with didn’t absolutely hate their job because then I probably would’ve been treated better.

I’ve been with Ameriprise through CostCo for home and auto for about 13 years. Very satisfied with rates and claims process until now. They jacked our auto rates by 155% for no good reason. No recent tickets, accidents or claims. I can’t get away from these clowns fast enough.

Their claims process is a joke. They are very vague and don’t want to help you. I hit a dog causing over $2,000 in damage to my car. When I was reporting the accident and told them my vehicle needed to be towed, they told me I had to ser up the tow. Also, I had to out of pocket the tow if the tow company wouldn’t directly bill ameriprise. I asked don’t you have companies that you’re contracted with? Well no, but we will reimburse you. Worst experience with an auto claim ever. Thankfully I have roadside assistance through OnStar and they towed my car. They further drug their feet with the appraisal. I had to continue to call and have them extend my rental car. Now, the radiator that was replaced in October has blown a hole in it, and this nightmare begins again. I will be changing insurance companies even if I have to pay a bit more.

One of their clients collided with our car. The police issued their client a ticket, hence they were clearly at fault. Ameriprise offered to pay us 50% of the damages and 50% of the car rental while the car was being repaired, even though there is no question that their client is at fault. Ameriprise did not attempt at all to justify their position. I hope everyone that reads this questions whether Ameriprise will think carefully about the ethics of this company. Here’s the email we received from their customer representative:

    “Dear Mr.:

The initial review of the damages and estimate with statements from all parties, we have offered to cover 50% of your damages to your vehicle and 50% of basic transportation if needed while your vehicle is being repaired?. We do have some room to move, however we would not be able to cover 100% of your damages’.

    Thank you,”

I switched to this company when Farmers hiked up my insurance dispite the fact I never entered a claim nor did I ever miss a payment. Ameriprise was worse. After 2 years with them they jacked my premiums 70% on my home and auto. When I complained the rep just read from the same form letter that I had received in the mail. The letter is vague with wording like “Implemented a rate revision in your state” and driving history and anuuual mileage that I feel should not apply to me since I live so close to my job and walk most of the time.
The bottom line. They raised the rates for no good or accurate reason!

I have been with Ameriprise for my auto and home insurance for four years. I switched to Ameriprise because after being with Progressive for seven years, they hiked their rates on us due to other people having too many losses. I did not agree that I should be penalized for other people’s mistakes since my spouse and I had been what we felt long-term customers with clean driving records. M

y mom told me to check into Ameriprise. Ameriprise offers a discount if a you are a Costco member. We received a 33% discount from being Costco members and also another discount for purchasing our homeowners insurance through them as well. There were also the typical discounts, such as multi-car as well. In addition, we received more coverage for less. We had one claim in December 2010.

My husband and another vehicle were involved in an accident causing the drivers front end of my minivan to be crushed. Luckily nobody was injured. The experience was probably the least stressful experience I have ever had. There was a miscommunication with the towing company, resulting in a delay. The claim adjustor quickly resolved the issue and we were onto repairs. Ameriprise gave me the option to either total the van, or invest in repairs.

I had only had the van for a year and did not want to let it go. Worried our rates would increase due to a $6,000 claim for my van to be repaired, I held my breath when I opened the renewal letter in February 2011. Our insurance did NOT increase even $1.00! I then figured, well, maybe it takes awhile for these things to flow through the chain of commands for a rate increase. Again, at August renewal, I held my breath – again, no increase.

To date, we have yet to see any type of rate increase on our auto insurance coverage. I would highly recommend Ameriprise to anyone looking for affordable coverage. I never really see any marketing for them and perhaps that is a reason they are so affordable. The only marketing I see is at Costco. Before my mom recommended I look into them, I had no idea who Ameriprise was.

I had only known of the “bigger” insurance carriers, such as Progressive, Allstate, Geico, Nationwide, and State Farm. Do not doubt Ameriprise, assuming they are low players in the insurance industry. They are smarter that others by not investing in all the overhead (the commercials for the head honchos are really old and annoying). Check them out and give them a chance. See how much they can save you!
